Eduardo’s spotlight review on the recent cryo-TEM structure of a higher plant cellulose synthase trimer is now available online at Trends in Plant Science. This paper highlights the structural information presented in Purushotham et al., 2020 Science and discusses the insights that these new data bring to our understanding of cellulose synthesis in higher plants.
Our collaboration with Michael Sauer’s group at the University of Potsdam is now available online with PNAS. This work presents a comprehensive study of Epsin-like accessory proteins in Arabidopsis and reveals the existence of two independent, parallel transport pathways, which originate from spatially separate regions at the trans-Golgi Network.
Heather is the (remote) invited seminar speaker at the Department of Biology at the University of Toronto at Mississauga today. She will update everyone on the recent research from the lab and join the graduate students for a virtual lunch.
Heather has been granted a 2-year Connaught New Researcher Award to support the lab’s work on cell wall signalling.
Three new BSc project courses have started in the McFarLab. Erik is undertaking a remote BCB330 project as part of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Program. Jenny and Una are conducting Cell & Systems Biology CSB498 projects in the lab. Welcome everyone!
Larissa Machado Tobias (co-supervised with Gerd Bossinger and Antanas Spokevicius) has been awarded her MSc from the University of Melbourne. Larissa’s thesis received glowing comments from the reviewers and is currently in preparation for publication. She is continuing her scientific career as a lab technician in an industry setting. Congratulations Larissa!
Natalie’s latest paper, the culmination of her MSc project with Lacey Samuels at the University of British Columbia, is now available online with Plant Physiology. There have been exciting rumours about the cover image, so keep a lookout for the October issue of the journal!
Benjamin-Israel Moke has been awarded his BSc from the University of Toronto during the unique online convocation ceremony today. Ben has been a work-study student and volunteer in the McFarLab since September 2019. Next September, he will start life as a graduate student in CSB. Congratulations Ben!
Eduardo has been awarded CONACyT Beca de Posgrado en el Extranjero scholarship from the Mexican National Council for Science and Technology to fund his PhD studies. Congratulations Eduardo!
